The Office of Public Prosecutions’ (OPP) structured work experience/student placement program enables students of relevant tertiary programs to gain practical experience by working at the OPP.
As the nature of our work is sensitive and often confronting we have a duty of care for the health and safety of all of our workers – including tertiary students undertaking work experience.
The OPP does not offer work experience to secondary students or students under the age of 18 years. Our work involves prosecuting the most serious indictable offences in the State. As this is our core work, it is difficult to minimise the risk of student exposure to material that can be graphic and distressing.
The OPP is unable to provide opportunities for law students to volunteer within the organisation. If you are looking for opportunities to volunteer we recommend you contact a community legal centre (CLC). The Federation of Community Legal Centres (Vic) can provide you with information on CLCs in Victoria.
