Good behaviour bond sentence appealed

The Director of Public Prosecutions has appealed a two-year good behaviour bond handed to a man who was found guilty of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Franco Abad was sentenced in the County Court on 19 August to a two-year good behaviour bond after a jury convicted him of one charge of sexual penetration of a child under 16 years.

The court was told that Abad was 31 years old, and that the girl was in the care of the Department of Human Services, at the time of the offending.

The DPP lodged the appeal on the grounds that there was an error in sentence and a different sentence should be imposed, and that an appeal should be brought in the public interest.
