Senior Crown Prosecutor appointment

The Director of Public Prosecutions, John Champion S.C., has congratulated Brendan Kissane QC on being appointed a Senior Crown Prosecutor.

The appointment was confirmed by the Governor in Council last week pursuant to sections 31 and 32 of the Public Prosecutions Act for a term of 10 years.

Mr Champion said the appointment recognised the outstanding contribution Mr Kissane had made to the work of the Victorian public prosecutions service.

“Brendan is highly deserving of this appointment and will bring much experience and dedication to the role,” he said.

In also congratulating Mr Kissane on the appointment, Chief Crown Prosecutor Gavin Silbert QC said he had proved to be an invaluable member of Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers since he joined in November 2007.

Mr Kissane signed the Bar Roll in 1985 and read with retired County Court Judge, Joe Gullaci.

After joining Crown Prosecutors' Chambers he worked in the Specialist Sex Offences Unit before becoming the first Crown Prosecutor to work in the Geelong office, where he was based for two years.

Since returning to Melbourne, Mr Kissane has predominantly worked in the Court of Appeal.
