DPP appeals non-conviction sentence

The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions has lodged an appeal against the sentence imposed on a man for sexual assault and drug possession.

Luka Luka (a.k.a Laku Laku) pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court to two charges of sexual assault and one charge of possessing cannabis.

He was sentenced by the Court on 16 January this year to a two-year Community Correction Order without conviction.

The Acting DPP, Gavin Silbert QC, has lodged the appeal on the basis that the sentence imposed is manifestly inadequate.
