Senior Crown Prosecutor appointed County Court Judge

The Director of Public Prosecutions John Champion S.C. today welcomed the appointment of Douglas Trapnell QC as a judge of the County Court of Victoria.

“Douglas has made a significant contribution to the Victorian criminal justice system over more than 30 years and is highly deserving of this appointment,” Mr Champion said.

“This is a recognition of his outstanding work with Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers, where he was highly regarded for his work before the Court of Appeal in Victoria.”

“I congratulate Douglas on his appointment and wish him well as he continues to serve the State of Victoria in this important role.”

Chief Crown Prosecutor Gavin Silbert QC said Douglas had made a lasting contribution to Crown Prosecutors' Chambers since joining in November 2003.

“Douglas has been a member of these Chambers for 14 years, becoming a Senior Crown Prosecutor in 2010 after taking silk in 2008. In this time he carried a heavy load on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Court of Appeal,” Mr Silbert said.

“He appeared in many cases reported in the Victorian Law Reports and in Baiada Poultry Pty Ltd v The Queen, reported in the Commonwealth Law Reports in 2012.”

“His appointment is well deserved and he will be a loss to Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers.”
