Role of THE TRIAL DIVISIONS

Three Trial Divisions manage and conduct most of the OPP's trial work across the State.

The divisions deliver a streamlined, efficient prosecution service and provide greater opportunities for our lawyers to gain exposure to a range of work.

Smaller teams within the Trial Divisions provide the flexibility and  capability to manage large matters.

The Geelong office, which services prosecutions in South-west Victoria, is part of a Trial Division.

The Trial Divisions handle a wide range of matters including:

  • murder
  • manslaughter
  • culpable driving
  • workplace death or serious injury
  • serious assaults
  • aggravated burglaries
  • armed robberies
  • assistance in coroner’s inquests.

The matters are heard in the Magistrates’, County and Supreme Courts, as well as the Coroner’s Court (for inquests).
