Vaille Anscombe - Acting Solicitor for Public Prosecutions

The OPP’s Annual Report for 2014/15 shows we have achieved another year of strong prosecution outcomes.

Guilty outcomes were achieved in 89 per cent of all matters finalised in 2014/15 either as guilty pleas or guilty verdicts at trial, maintaining strong prosecution outcomes over the past five years.

Significantly, 75.2 per cent of all matters were finalised as guilty pleas, therefore achieving fair and just outcomes while saving the criminal justice system, and the community, resources in trial preparation and court time.

New Chief Judge ready to embrace new ideas

Being welcomed as Chief Judge of the County Court a day after turning 50, Peter Kidd told a courtroom overflowing with his criminal justice colleagues that he would respect tradition but would also readily embrace new ideas.

“It is a tremendous honour, it really is, to be entrusted with this position and the opportunity to continue to shape the criminal justice system,” Chief Judge Kidd said.

Meet the newest Crown Prosecutors

Meet the newest members of Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers, Sharn Coombes and Jeremy McWilliams, who were appointed in June.

Sharn Coombes realised a career goal when she was appointed a Crown Prosecutor.  She loves a challenge and said she was looking forward to taking on complex matters and spending more time in the Supreme Court as Crown Prosecutor.

For Jeremy McWilliams, joining Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers was also an ideal career move, having prosecuted almost exclusively on behalf of the DPP since signing the Victorian Bar Roll in May 2009.
