Crown Prosecutors

Victoria's Crown Prosecutors are barristers who are appointed to work exclusively for the Office of Public Prosecutions, representing the DPP in criminal cases. They present the case against an accused person in the Magistrates' Court, County Court and the Supreme Court. They also represent the Crown in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

In addition, Crown Prosecutors provide advice on prosecuting cases to the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions, and make decisions about the charges on which an accused person should be presented for trial. Crown Prosecutors act on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions and are answerable to the DPP for the performance of their duties.
