Crown Prosecutor Kieran Gilligan appointed Victorian Magistrate.

Director of Public Prosecutions Kerri Judd QC has congratulated Crown Prosecutor Kieran Gilligan on being appointed a Victorian Magistrate.

The appointment was announced today by the Attorney-General Martin Pakula.

Ms Judd said Mr Gilligan had made an outstanding contribution to Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers since his appointment in November 2003.

“He has prosecuted a number of significant cases over this period and has been a valued team member in Chambers,” Ms Judd said.

“He is a big loss to Chambers, but we wish him well in his new role at the Magistrates’ Court.”

Mr Gilligan was admitted to practice in 1983 and signed the Victorian Bar Roll in 1985.

At the Bar, he appeared as defence counsel and prosecution at all levels of jurisdiction in major criminal matters.

As a Crown Prosecutor he has appeared in a number of significant cases, including one of the largest prosecutions in Victoria relating to the Melbourne Remand Centre riots.
