Abbey Hogan Appointed New Solicitor For Public Prosecutions

Director of Public Prosecutions Kerri Judd QC has announced the appointment of Abbey Hogan as Solicitor for Public Prosecutions (SPP) in Victoria.

“Following an extensive external recruitment campaign, coordinated by executive recruitment firm Odgers Berndtson, I am delighted to announce that I have appointed Abbey Hogan as the next Solicitor for Public Prosecutions in Victoria,” Ms Judd said.

“Ms Hogan has a wealth of experience in criminal prosecutions having worked at the OPP since 2003. She has shown great leadership as Manager of the Policy and Specialised Legal division, a position she has held since 2015.”

“She understands the challenges and importance of the work of the OPP,” Ms Judd said.

Ms Hogan has a Bachelor of Laws from La Trobe University and a Bachelor of Arts from RMIT University. She began her legal career at the OPP as an articled clerk, and has since held a number of roles including in General Prosecutions, Drugs, and Policy and Court of Appeal.

Ms Hogan has been Acting in the role of SPP since 30 November, following the appointment of former SPP John Cain as Victorian State Coroner. Her appointment as SPP is effective as of 3 February.

The SPP manages the staff and budget of the OPP and has responsibility for briefing counsel, including Crown Prosecutors, on behalf of the DPP to prosecute serious crime including homicides, culpable driving, drug trafficking, sex offences, organised crime, and serious assaults.

The SPP is also a member of the Director’s Committee alongside the DPP and Chief Crown Prosecutor.
