The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) warmly congratulates Diana Piekusis KC on her appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria, effective 3 February 2026.
The appointment marks a fitting conclusion to Ms Piekusis’ service with the OPP, which began in 2009. She will bring more than 26 years of legal experience to the court, having practised as a solicitor (1998–2003), counsel (2003 onwards) and senior counsel (2018 onwards), with extensive involvement in high profile and complex criminal matters.
Ms Piekusis has made an exceptional contribution to the administration of justice in Victoria. Most recently she served as Chief Crown Prosecutor, historically becoming the first woman in Victoria to be appointed to the role. During this time, she also undertook periods of acting as Director of Public Prosecutions.
Throughout her leadership, Ms Piekusis shaped culture, strengthened decision making frameworks, and supported the growth of prosecutors and junior barristers. She was appointed Senior Crown Prosecutor in 2018 and had served as a Crown Prosecutor since 2009. She has long been one of the state’s foremost prosecutors, having regularly appeared in high-profile matters on behalf of the State and Commonwealth DPPs prior to joining the Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers.
Director of Public Prosecutions, Brendan Kissane KC, said Ms Piekusis’ appointment is an acknowledgment of her exemplary service and leadership.
“Diana has been an outstanding Chief Crown Prosecutor. Her leadership strengthened Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers and made a lasting contribution to the criminal justice system,” Mr Kissane said.
“Diana’s appointment to the Supreme Court is richly deserved, and it has been a privilege to work alongside her.”
Solicitor for Public Prosecutions, Abbey Hogan, also congratulated Ms Piekusis.
“Diana is an outstanding leader and mentor whose support has shaped the development of prosecutors and solicitors across the OPP,” Ms Hogan said.
“We wish Diana every success as she takes on this important judicial role.”
