The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) sincerely congratulates Kristie Churchill KC on her appointment to the office of Chief Crown Prosecutor as of Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
Ms Churchill joined Crown Chambers in 2018 after practising at the Victorian Bar and was appointed Senior Crown Prosecutor in March 2025 and Senior Counsel in October 2025.
Ms Churchill brings to the role more than 25 years’ experience across the criminal justice system. She has extensive experience conducting complex and serious criminal prosecutions in Victoria’s higher courts and is recognised for her expertise in homicide trials, particularly those involving youth offenders, group offending and family violence.
On behalf of the OPP, Director of Public Prosecutions Brendan Kissane KC and Solicitor for Public Prosecutions Abbey Hogan congratulate Ms Churchill.
“Ms Churchill’s appointment as Chief Crown Prosecutor reflects the breadth of experience, sound judgement and leadership she brings to one of the most important roles in Victoria’s criminal justice system,” Mr Kissane said.
Prior to joining the Victorian Bar in 2009, Ms Churchill worked as a solicitor with the OPP and previously held roles in corrections, juvenile justice and forensic drug treatment services, giving her broad experience across the justice sector.
“Ms Churchill’s depth of experience across the criminal justice system gives her a unique perspective as a prosecutor and leader,” Ms Hogan said.
“Ms Churchill’s appointment is a testament to the significant contribution she has made to the OPP and Victoria’s criminal justice system throughout her career. We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved appointment with her.”
Ms Churchill holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University, a Bachelor of Arts (Criminology) from Griffith University and an Advanced Diploma of Criminal Justice Administration.
