New OPP Senior Crown Prosecutor appointed

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Stanton SC as a Senior Crown Prosecutor at the OPP.

Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Mark Gibson KC and Solicitor for Public Prosecutions Abbey Hogan welcomed the appointment.

“I congratulate Mr Stanton on his appointment. He brings exceptional experience in criminal and public law, and his expertise will be a significant asset to Crown Prosecutors’ Chambers,” Mr Gibson said

He has appeared in the High Court of Australia, regularly in conviction and sentence appeals before the Court of Appeal, and in royal commissions and coronial inquests, including in complex and high profile matters.

Before practising at the Bar, Mr Stanton worked as an associate and researcher in the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Victoria and as a duty lawyer in the Criminal Law Division with Victoria Legal Aid.
